GCWCC

The ProjectBE Movement

Did you know refugees have been part of Canada’s cultural mosaic since before Confederation? Consecutive waves of refugees have helped build modern Canada, starting with the Quakers and Black Loyalists that fled the American Revolution in the 1770s, followed by Polish, Jewish, Ukrainian, Chilean, Bengali, Indochinese, Kosovar, Karen, Bhutanese, Iraqi and, most recently, Syrian refugees, among others.

In 2016, approximately 46,000 refugees arrived in Canada in search for a better life. According to Immigrant, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, many refugees will need more support in areas such as housing, employment, language training, and mental health/well-being.

Little Voice is proud to support ProjectBE and our newest movement that will support refugee resettlement!

The ProjectBE Movement is supporting refugee settlement efforts through three focus areas:

  1. Family settlement

  2. Employment and professional development

  3. Vulnerable groups: youth, women, the elderly and LGBTQ+ refugees

The GCWCC Movement

Little Voice is very excited to be supporting this year’s Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) through our movement!

The Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) is a charitable giving option developed exclusively for federal public servants and federal retirees. The annual GCWCC takes place in federal workplaces across the country during the fall campaign period (September to December).

Through the GCWCC, public servants can support United Ways/Centraides, HealthPartners or any other registered Canadian charity of their choosing. United Way, a trusted community partner with a history of making wise investments, manages the campaign on behalf of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.

From October 4, 2016 to December 5, 2016, the GCWCC Movement will run using the coupon code “gcwcc”.

With every purchase of Little Voice using this code, Little Voice will donate $5 dollars from each book sale to this year’s campaign. Get involved by sharing our shop link and the movement code with your work, friends, family and even social media!

For those working in the Gatineau area, the coupon code will also enable free shipping for pick-up at 30 Rue Victoria, Gatineau, Quebec.

Order your copy of Little Voice today and see how the power of our movement can support amazing causes in our community.

Little Voice Gives Back

Little Voice had a great week at Parks Canada for the GCWCC Book Sale!

After 3 days of sharing our story with public servants in the area, Little Voice was able to donate $91 back into the Campaign and in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada!

A BIG thank you to all those who supported this cause by purchasing a copy of our book and donating to our Alzheimer Society of Canada Donation Jar!

Little Voice & the GCWCC

Like many entrepreneurs, Little Voice’s author and illustrator both work full time while pursuing their dream of sharing their story and message!

“Sometimes it’s hard when all you want to do is come home and take a nap but know you have a million other things that need your attention. Our little voices definitely help keep us motivated in achieving our dreams; though we work day and night to achieve our success, we wouldn’t have it any other way! The moment we see someone post our book or send us a message about how inspired they were is the moment we realize all our hard work has been worth it! We eventually become more determined and inspired to keep on working so that we may continue to share our message with others!” – Amanda Bernardo, Author

On top of running the Little Voice’s publication AND their day jobs, Amanda and Samantha also make sure to give back to their communities!

“We volunteer as often as we can, whether it be by promoting local causes or organizations, volunteering, raising awareness or simply making donations; giving back to our community is at the forefront of Little Voice.” – Samantha Clusiau-Lawlor, Illustrator

Amanda and Samantha  developed the Little Voice Forget Me Not Project to raise awareness and funds in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada and the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County. They also give back through their #30BooksFundraiser and by volunteering their time at local schools and organizations!

It was only natural that their hard work ethic and passion to give back led them to work with this year’s GCWCC Campaign.
